New Medications Being
Studied

CURRENTLY AVAILABLE RESEARCH TRIAL FOR THE TREATMENT OF OSTEOARTHRITIS OF THE KNEE.

A trial to test if ketotop (a topical plaster containing ketoprofen 30 mg) is safe and effective in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee.

Purpose

To test if ketotop (a topical plaster containing ketoprofen 30 mg) is safe and effective in the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee. Patients will receive topical plaster containing either 30mg of Ketoprofen or placebo (fake medication) over a three month period. Patients will also be given Tylenol (acetaminophen) and are allowed to take up to 4grams daily for pain.

Qualifications

Male or female 50 years of age or older.

Diagnosed with osteoarthritis of the knee.

Must have knee pain due to osteoarthritis

Must not have any major surgical procedure that would be performed on the knee during the course of the study.

May not have any steroid injections in the affected knee within 3 months or steroid injections to any joint within the 1 month

May not have any Synvisc or Hyalagan injections in the knee within 6 months

May not have skin wounds or open injuries on the affected knee.

May not be using a anticoagulants or chronic narcotics

May not have peptic ulceration or gastrointestinal bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease

May not have sensitivity to anti-inflammatory medications
